Application deadline extended: 29 June 2020

27 - 31 July,

20 - 24 October 2020

We are proud to announce our new format to  deal with the unprecedented situation in which we find ourselves in this year. Providing opportunities for conductors to discuss and refine points of technique and interpretation in a warm and friendly environment is something we pride ourselves on.

LCW 2020 will now take place in two parts.

Part 1, 29 - 31 July

Part 2, 20 - 24 October

Part 1, 29 - 31 July

This will take place in the form of a Zoom conference for all accepted applicants, consisting of video feedback and online discussions.

The 29th and 30th July will consist of positive live video feedback from John Farrer and Howard Williams of footage sent in by participants with their applications. John and Howard will analyse and discuss technical and musical issues that arise from these, opening the discussion with all participants in order to introduce the issues which will be dealt with live in October.

On the 31st July, we will hold an open forum, with discussions led by John and Howard focussing on the course repertoire and concepts integral to the role of a conductor.

These sessions will be from 1600 UK time, lasting around two hours.

Part 2, 20 - 24 October

Part 2 will consist of our regular workshop. Every full participant conducts the chosen piece each day, conductors are required to attend every session and are expected to have studied each piece in its entirety, and be prepared to conduct any section that the tutors select.

Our workshops are for a maximum of 16 full participants, but we operate a waiting list and accept observers. Any conductor on the waiting list is strongly advised to attend as an observer, and will have first refusal on any place that becomes available. First-time applicants are particularly encouraged to attend any of our courses as observers, to gain an insight into the Workshop experience. Please see our application guide for further details.

This year, our London Workshop will be held at Abacus Arts, London.  We are aiming to include a concert performance in this years course, details of which will follow shortly. All full participants are invited to perform with our orchestra from one of the pieces studied during the week. The tutors will select the most appropriate piece for each conductor.

The Fee for this course is: £1,595.00 + a £40 application fee

The workshop fee covers the following:

  • all administration charges

  • tuition

  • certificate of participation

The fee does not cover travel to London, transport within London, accommodation or food and drink during the course. Participants must provide their own scores and batons. Applications are via the form that is found by clicking on the website logo but if you have difficulty downloading it then please let us know and we will happily send you a copy by email.

A normal day starts at 10.00am and runs through until 5.30pm, followed by a brief feedback session. The concert day will be arranged slightly differently to accommodate the evening concert.
