The London Conducting Workshop is now firmly established as one of the most exciting and rewarding orchestral conducting Master Class workshops in the UK. The next London Conducting Workshop takes place 27 - 31 July 2009
in our new venue, the Manoukian Music Centre of Westminster School, London. This Master Class in orchestral conducting gives each conductor valuable time on the podium before a supportive and professional orchestra, and the opportunity to discuss and refine points of technique and interpretation in a warm and friendly environment. The first day is diagnostic, where each participant conducts two pianists, with the remaining 4 days given over to full orchestra. Unlike some other orchestral conducting workshops, every full participant conducts the chosen pieces each day - no more waiting around hoping that your number comes up!
John
Farrer
and Neil Thomson are the tutors for the London Conducting Workshop.
Some comments from participants on the London Conducting Workshop:
"The orchestra is exceptional, the feedback from teachers and musicians invaluable"
"The whole week was memorable and fantastically organised"
"Tons of podium time - great value for money"
"A life-changing experience"

London Conducting Workshop at Champs Hill

Our residential conducting course set in the beautiful and extensive grounds of a private home in West Sussex (about 75 mins train journey from London).
This course is with piano four-hands, and includes technical sessions on such topics as score-analysis and baton technique, with plenty of time for discussion with colleagues and with tutors. Ideal for conductors who cannot manage a whole week away from work, it is also suitable for those conductors wishing to immerse themselves in intensive study for a long period and/or who want to participate in both courses. Our pianists this year are Professor Charles Wiffen and Bonnie Bogle Farrer. The repertoire to be studied this year is:
Haydn - Symphony No.88 and Beethoven - Symphony No.5
The course takes place from 22 -25 July 2009 and applications are via the same methods as for the London-based week. You may apply for either or both courses. You will need to arrive at Champs Hill on the morning of 22nd July for registration and lunch, and you will depart around 12.00pm midday on 25th following a final wrap-up session that morning. For those travelling long distances it may be possible to arrive the night before; please ask for information if this is of interest to you.
